Recently Suprina Frazier discovered a copy of her book illegally uploaded to the social networking and reading website, Scribd.com. Instead of lawsuits, she decided to allow the pirate to keep posting her work.
Frazier realized the e-book version of could help drum up more support for her work. Ultimately, she decided to set the whole manuscript free, as long as pirates would give her proper credit. For writers who aren’t so gracious, here’s a sample takedown notice from Scribd.com.
Here’s an excerpt from her blog: “[I posted] my requests/considerations in the comment section of [the pirate] Scribd page so that everyone that links to that book will see that I’ve given this person my permission to leave that e-book up … I decided that if that site can be used to pirate my books, why not use that same site to PROMOTE my books.”
