What Audiobook Authors Can Learn from Improv Everywhere

By Jason Boog

The brilliant comedy troupe Improv Everywhere used a simple MP3 file to create a sprawling performance with 3,000 civilian participants.

Here’s more about the experiment: “For our latest mission, over 3,000 participants downloaded an MP3 file and pressed play simultaneously in retail stores in Midtown Manhattan. The masses converged on Bryant Park where a series of fun activities unfolded, culminating in a huge ‘mummy dance party.’ This was the 7th installment in our Mp3 Experiment series.”

Watching the beautiful video embedded above, we could only think of one thing–audiobooks! What if a brave author used an audiobook as a platform for a similar mass activity? Dedicated readers could take a literary tour or follow the protagonist through the book’s real life setting. What do you think?
