Jami Attenberg is touring the South to promote the paperback release of her second novel, The Kept Man, and she’s compiling a video diary at every stop along the way. In this clip, she’s hanging out in Memphis; it cracks us up every time she and her friend talk to each other without ever looking away from the camera.

This weekend, Attenberg’s tour takes her to New Orleans, where she’ll be reading at FAB Books in the French Quarter. “If you know anyone who will be at Mardi Gras, please tell them to stop by,” she asks; the first parade coincides with her bookstore appearance.

We’ve seen a lot of short films to promote books before they come out, and we’ve seen authors like Meg Cabot produce series of publisher-supported videos with room in the budget for special editing effects. Do you know of anyone else who’s been creating a series of low-fi videos similar to Attenberg’s to keep in touch with their fans after their books have come out?
