Argo Bookshop for Sale

By Maryann Yin

Argo Bookshop owner Christopher Clarke hopes to sell his Montreal-based business.

According to the store’s blog, Clarke plans to leave bookselling to become a minister. Here’s more from the announcement: “The good news is that the store is for sale and you have an opportunity to become part of the tradition.  Argo is as profitable as ever and as easy and pleasurable a job as any book-lover could ever hope for.”

The  bookstore was founded in 1966 by librarian John George. He ran the shop until illness forced him out in January 2006. After that two loyal employees,  John Wyse and Jim McPhail, operated the establishment until Clarke took over in 2009.
