Anonymous Source Reveals New eBook Rights Structure at Random House

rh23.jpgYesterday the Wylie Agency rocked the literary world as they removed all Random House titles from agency’s fledgling eBook imprint, Odyssey Editions.

Today Publishers Weekly spoke with “one high-placed source” for an an eRoyalty scoop: “The source said Random is offering a royalty built around a sliding schedule on e-book rights for backlist titles that can approach 40% ‘rather quickly.’ The source explained that the royalty is based on a certain number of books selling over a specified period of time and, depending on what’s negotiated, the rate will rise based on the rate of sale.

Last night we recorded the reactions of the anonymously written satirical Twitter feeds, Captain Random House and EvilWylie. The dynamic duo have tweeted throughout the eBook standoff. As it concluded, one writer sulked, while the other gloated.
