200px-John_Updike_with_Bushes_new.jpgBook critic Adam Begley has inked a deal with HarperCollins for a biography of John Updike, writing about the American author who died in January.

Begley edits the NY Observer Review of Books, and wrote that paper’s obituary for Updike. According to the NY Observer, the critic was represented by agent George Borchardt, and the book will be handled by editor Tim Duggan. The biography is scheduled for a 2011 release.

Here’s more from Begley’s obituary for Updike:

“[T]here was quality: the famous Updike prose, elaborate, ingenious, wonderfully mellifluous–we’re going to hear a lot over the next few days about the glory of his prose. There was the cool fluidity that never deserted him, in book after book after book. He had a topic, too, which he mined exhaustively: the psyche of the ordinary middle-class American male in the second half of the 20th century.”
