New York City Comic Con News Round-Up for 2011

Over the weekend, New York Comic Con celebrated comic books and entertainment. It was jam-packed with events, panels, and screenings. This GalleyCat correspondent brought back some news from the show.

1. At the Legendary Comics panel, Frank Miller confirmed that he will publish new Sin City comics with Dark Horse Comics.

2. Archaia Entertainment editor-in-chief Stephen Christy described the graphic novel adaptation of Jim Henson and Jerry Juhl‘s screenplay A Tale of Sand as “Alice in Wonderland meets 127 Hours if directed by Jim Henson.” The graphic novel will be released this December.

3. Hugo award-winning writer Timothy Zahn inked a deal with Del Ray for an “all-new classic  era adventure [Star Wars] novel” starring Han Solo.

4. At the Yen Press panel, artist Sveltlana Chmakova said that James Patterson‘s young-adult series, Witch & Wizard, worked well in the graphic novel format.

5. Comics legend Stan Lee and MTV Comics selected writer Heather Kenealy and artist Stephen Green as the winners of The Seekers talent search contest.

6. In May 2012, Image Comics will launch a three-issue miniseries chronicling the adventures of Captain Brooklyn, celebrating New York City’s beloved borough.

7. During the Archie Comics panel, it was announced that issue #626 feature a guest appearance from former NFL star Michael Strahan. In issue #16 of the Life with Archie series, readers will see Kevin Keller in military uniform and meet Dr. Clay Walker.

8. J.K. Rowling‘s magical game of Quidditch has been adapted for “muggles.” New York Comic Con attendees were treated to matches from several human teams.

9. The Avengers panel featured surprise guest appearances from the film’s cast including Chris Evans (Captain America), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Clark Gregg (Agent Coulson) and Cobie Smulders (Agent Hill).

10. Artist Jenny Frison emphasized on Zoey Redbird‘s “powerful eyes” and vampire powers when designing the covers for Dark Horse Comics’ adaptation of P.C. Cast & Kristin Cast‘s House of Night series.
