36 Employees Cut at Borders UK

bordersUK.jpgDuring the Thanksgiving holiday, Borders UK entered administration, appointing the insolvency and restructuring company MCR to handle the company’s next actions–creating an uncertain future for 1,150 workers at 45 different stores. So far, 36 employees have reportedly been cut.

The Bookseller spoke with an MCR representative and reported that “the administrators of Borders made 36 staff at the store support office on Charing Cross Road redundant … The administrator added: ‘I can confirm that no redundancies have been made in-store.'”

In addition, more than 1,300 people have joined the Save Borders Facebook page, a community site dedicated to preserving the UK bookseller. Here’s more from the website: “Keep the faith! We’re not down yet! Borders can get back to what it does best & what we’re loved for. Like many of you this has been my best workplace so far and I’ve met some of my best friends there. Its the people who make Borders not Phil Downer or any of the upper management. Customers come in to see us and be helped by us, some granted we could do without!”
