For Pitcher, the cover fits the book because she pictures “Tess like the goldfish, opening and closing her mouth, with nothing coming out except empty speech bubbles.” The author feels that “the cover really captures Tess’s sense of bewilderment and isolation as she struggles to accept the truth of who she really is.”
