Twitter Users in U.S. to See Prompts on Voting by Mail, Election Results

By Christine Zosche

Twitter continues to take steps to thwart misinformation on its platform related to the upcoming presidential election in the U.S., showing two prompts to all U.S. users starting Monday. (Adweek)

One notice warns users that they “might encounter misleading information” about mail-in voting while the other attempts to head off online election-related chaos by cautioning that the results of the U.S. election may be delayed. (TechCrunch)

Twitter is calling the messages a “pre-bunk,” something it says it has never done, because the debunking is not a reaction to an existing tweet with misinformation. (CNBC)

Both prompts “will link to Twitter Moments that provide more context and compile the latest credible information on the topic from election experts, journalists and other authoritative news sources,” a Twitter spokesperson wrote in a press release announcing the campaign. (Mashable)
