Twitter Punishes Donald Trump Jr. for Spreading Covid-19 Misinformation

In the latest dust-up between Twitter and President Trump’s family, the social media company limited Donald Trump Jr.’s account functionalities for 12 hours and forced him to delete a video that spread misinformation about the Covid-19 pandemic. (Adweek)

The video came from the far-right news outlet Breitbart and was filled with dangerous misinformation about the coronavirus pandemic. The video touted the unproven (and sometimes dangerous) drug hydroxychloroquine, downplayed the need for masks, and questioned the expertise of doctors. (Mashable)

“It is beyond the pale for Twitter to silence someone for sharing the views of medical professionals who happen to dissent with their anti-hydroxychloroquine narrative,” said Trump Jr.’s spokesperson, Andrew Surabian, in a statement. (HuffPost)

President Trump also retweeted a clip of the video late Tuesday night. The tweet was later deleted, and no action was taken to his account. (NBC News)
