Twitter Is Finally Cracking Down on Users Who Promote Violence Online or Offline

In an attempt to further clean up its reputation, Twitter says it’s begun enforcing its latest rules that focus on reducing hate and abuse both on and off the social network. (Adweek)

New rules implemented on Twitter Monday led to the suspensions of accounts belonging to prominent neo-Nazis, white nationalists and other far-right extremists. (HuffPost)

One of the first high-profile accounts to be wiped from the social media platform is that of Jayda Fransen, the controversial Britain First leader who President Trump retweeted a few weeks ago. (Mashable)

The president’s own account will be safe from any such steps for the time being, thanks to an exception that shields government-linked accounts. (Variety)

Twitter has come under fire for abuse of its platform. Critics have called on the company to do more to prevent hate speech, bullying and harassment. A series of high-profile incidents, including the suspension of actress Rose McGowan’s account after she posted a series of tweets about Harvey Weinstein, have increased the scrutiny over Twitter’s handling of harassment.
