Twitter Bans Ads That Deny Climate Change

Twitter says it will no longer allow advertisers on its site who deny the scientific consensus on climate change, echoing a policy already in place at Google. (NBC News / AP)

Under the new policy, advertisements that contradict the “scientific consensus” on climate change will be prohibited along with other types of banned-ads, such as campaigns that contain violence, profanity or personal attacks. (WaPo)

Its decisions about what’s legit content in regard to climate change will be guided by “authoritative sources,” it says, including the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). (The Verge)

The announced change did not indicate whether Twitter would ban or delete the accounts of users who post climate change misinformation. (CNN)
