Twitter Announces 16 New Livestreaming Partners at Its First NewFronts Presentation

Another 16 sports, news and entertainment companies will soon be livestreaming content on Twitter as the company furthers its mission to be the go-to source for live content around the clock. (Adweek)

The company has struck deals with producer Ben Silverman, WNBA, Derek Jeter’s The Players’ Tribune, BuzzFeed News and Live Nation, all designed to bring a schedule of weekly and daily programming to the Twitter feed. Silverman, through his new company Propagate, will work with Twitter to create a daily live show, #WhatsHappening, that will focus on pop culture and entertainment news and moments. The series will be hosted by Phoebe Robinson, the comedian known for her work as the co-host of podcast “Two Dope Queens.” (THR)

Other partners include Major League Baseball, the NFL, Viacom, Bloomberg Media, the PGA, The Verge, Cheddar, and IMG Fashion. The new deals and collaborations will add hundreds of hours of exclusive content to Twitter, including live sports, concerts, news and entertainment, according to the company. Execs touted the pacts at Twitter’s first Digital Content NewFronts presentation Monday in New York. (Variety)

The platform streamed more than 800 hours of live content in the first quarter of this year according the company, reaching 45 million viewers. More than half was sports content, about one third was news, and 14 percent was entertainment-related. The largest portion of the viewership was under 25, and 60 percent were from outside the U.S. (CNBC)
