Trump and Biden Clash over Coronavirus, Economy, Healthcare in Final Debate

Thursday night, President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden faced off in a debate for the final time before Election Day. (CNBC)

A unique addition to Thursday night’s debate was Trump and Biden each had two minutes of uninterrupted time to speak at the beginning of every 15-minute segment of the debate. The candidate not speaking had his microphone muted. After that, there was time for back-and-forth with both candidates’ microphones open. (TVNewser)

The debate covered the novel coronavirus and the federal government’s response; national security, the election and China; American families, poverty and federal relief; immigration; race in America; and climate change. The final question to each candidate was on what they would say at a 2021 inauguration to Americans who did not vote for them. (WaPo)

As the candidates wrapped up their second encounter in Nashville, there was widespread consensus that the proceedings were more organized than last month’s raucous first debate in Cleveland. (WSJ)

“It’s fair to say that Trump supporters and Republican office holders can relax for the night. They can exhale,” said CNN’s Jake Tapper after the debate. “He didn’t set himself on fire tonight like he did at the first debate.” “[But] I mean, he did lie like Pinocchio,” added Tapper. (CNN)

“First of all, I’m jealous,” Fox News’ Chris Wallace said with a snicker in the network’s post-debate coverage. “I would’ve liked to have been able to moderate that debate and get a real exchange of views instead of hundreds of interruptions.” (Mediaite)
