Top Communications Exec Elliot Schrage Is Leaving Facebook

Facebook vice president of communications and public policy Elliot Schrage announced he is leaving the company. (Adweek)

Schrage, who joined Facebook from Google where he held a similar position running global communications and public affairs, will stay on at the social networking giant for a time to help hire his replacement. (Recode)

Schrage added that he has been “discussing” his exit with Facebook’s top two executives—Mark Zuckerberg and Sheryl Sandberg—”for a while.” He intends to lead the search to find a replacement. As it so happens, Twitter’s top communications exec, Kristin Binns, also announced plans Thursday to leave after two years with the company. (CNN)

Schrage joined Facebook in 2008. More recently, he led Facebook’s response to the Cambridge Analytica scandal, which was widely panned as inadequate. The social network was criticized for delaying its initial response to the scandal. (Variety)
