TikTok to Require Verification of Political Accounts, Ban Political Fundraising

Fundraising for your political campaign? Not on TikTok. The video creation platform updated its policies on political accounts Wednesday, with the midterm elections in the U.S. just weeks away. (Adweek)

TikTok has begun to require “mandatory verification” for political accounts based in the U.S. The push to verify political accounts began Wednesday on a trial basis and applies to governments, politicians and political parties on the platform, the company said in a blog post. (CNN Business)

TikTok’s president of global business solutions, Blake Chandlee, also said the company would immediately turn off all advertising and monetization features, like gifting and tipping, for politicians and parties on the platform. (The Verge)
