The coronavirus pandemic is forcing organizers to rethink Sundance. On Monday, Tabitha Jackson, the film festival’s director, unveiled her preliminary plans for the 2021 edition, a gathering expected to take place under social distancing restrictions and with a Covid-19 vaccine still unavailable. “At the center of all our planning, the 2021 Sundance Film Festival will have an online home, making the festival accessible in a way it never has been before,” Jackson said. (THR)
Jackson’s memo offers another significant update: Sundance “will be a grand partnership of communities that “will take place live in Utah and in at least 20 independent and community cinemas across the U.S. and beyond.” (IndieWire)
