Sinclair Teams Up with Weather Channel’s Parent Company to Acquire 21 Regional Fox Sports Networks

Local broadcast station juggernaut Sinclair has officially completed a $10.6 billion deal to acquire 21 regional Fox Sports networks that Disney had previously absorbed in the landmark $71.3 billion deal it struck with 21st Century Fox on March 20. (TVNewser)

In order to close its $71.3 billion acquisition of most of Fox, Disney agreed to sell off the regional sports networks so as to avoid monopoly issues, given the scope of its ESPN holdings. (Deadline)

Among the sports channels it is buying are Fox Sports West in Los Angeles and Fox Sports San Diego. Sinclair owns, operates and/or provides services to 191 TV stations in 89 U.S. markets. (THR)
