For the story, Vox editorial director Laura McGann spoke with 40 people about Thrush’s conduct as a journalist, including during his stint at Politico. “Three young women I interviewed, including the young woman who met Thrush in June, described to me a range of similar experiences, from unwanted groping and kissing, to wet kisses out of nowhere, to hazy sexual encounters that played out under the influence of alcohol,” she wrote. Thrush’s byline has become so recognizable that he was even portrayed in Saturday Night Live skits earlier this year of then-White House press secretary Sean Spicer’s briefings. He and another reporter, Maggie Haberman, are due to write a book about the Trump White House. A spokeswoman for Random House, which is publishing the book, said in a statement, “This matter recently came to our attention and we are looking at it closely and seriously.” (Variety)

A spokesperson for MSNBC said Monday that the network is awaiting the outcome of the Times’ investigation into Thrush, and that he “currently has no scheduled appearances” on the network. In an email to CNN, Thrush said of the allegations against him: “Over the past several years, I have responded to a succession of personal and health crises by drinking heavily… I have not taken a drink since June 15, 2017, have resumed counseling and will soon begin out-patient treatment for alcoholism. I am working hard to repair the damage I have done.” (CNN)
