Oppenheim will add oversight of Meet The Press, NBC Nightly News and the rest of the network news division. To jump-start its international expansion plans, NBC has acquired an ownership stake in Euronews, an existing cable news channel based in France and available in 164 countries across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The channel will be rebranded as Euronews NBC. NBC is reported to have acquired 25 percent of the company. (Politico Media)

NBC will spend $30 million for its stake in the network, according to the person briefed on the plan. This will enable it to compete more aggressively with CNN, which has a robust international presence. Founded in 1993, the network has more than 400 journalists and is broadcast in 13 languages. Turness, the former British television executive who arrived at NBC News in 2013, is returning to London as a result of the move. Oppenheim worked on Today from 2005 to 2008 and became a stabilizing force after returning to take over the program in 2015. (LAT / Company Town)
