Newsweek Apologizes for Posting Image of Martin Luther King Jr. in Casket

By Christine Zosche

Newsweek is taking a pounding in the new year for tweeting a photo of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in his casket. The photo accompanied a tweet on Monday saying, “Has anyone here seen my old friend Martin?” and linking to a month-old blog post on notable anniversaries of 2018. King’s daughter, Bernice, tweeted: “Why, @Newsweek? Wow.” (Atlanta Journal-Constitution)

The tweet has since been taken down and Newsweek apologized: “Earlier this afternoon we published an opinion piece with an insensitive image of Martin Luther King Jr. We sincerely apologize to the King family for this egregious error.” (Mediaite)
