News Corp Readies News App to Address Publishers’ Concerns About Google and Facebook

By Christine Zosche

News Corp is developing a news-aggregation service meant to address concerns that Alphabet Inc.’s Google News and other digital platforms don’t reward publishers’ work adequately and play down articles from certain types of sites, according to people familiar with the plans. (WSJ)

The platform, called Knewz, would compete with other news aggregators by not taking a cut of advertising revenue from publishers and is aimed to promote original reporting. (Mediaite)

Knewz is also being developed due to concerns from News Corp executives that Google and Facebook are biased against conservative publications, according to the Journal. (The Verge)

There’s no launch date for Knewz but it could debut later in 2019. A message on Knewz.com currently says, “This site is available to registered users only.” (Variety)
