X owner Elon Musk floated the idea that the social network formerly known as Twitter may no longer be a free site. In a livestreamed conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Monday, Musk said the company was “moving to a small monthly payment” for the use of the X system. (TechCrunch)

He claimed that it is the only way to eliminate the problem of bots, as reported by Bloomberg’s Dave Lee. Musk didn’t mention the timing of his plan to charge X/Twitter users, nor did he say how much it would cost. (Variety)

During the livestream, Musk also divulged some new metrics from X, claiming it now has 550 million “monthly users,” generating 100 million to 200 million daily posts. (NBC News)
