More People Tuned In for the Game Of Thrones Series Finale Than The Big Bang Theory’s Last Episode

The Iron Throne might have been destroyed in Sunday night’s final episode of Game Of Thrones, but the show went down smashing one last viewing record for the series and the network. (Adweek)

The HBO megahit drew 13.6 million viewers for its initial airing of the series finale Sunday night. Adding in replays and early streaming, that figure climbs to 19.3 million. Both figures are records not just for Game Of Thrones, but for HBO’s entire history. (THR / Live Feed)

The previous record holder was the Season 4 premiere of The Sopranos in 2002, which drew 13.4 million. (Variety)

The 82-minute long sixth episode of the eighth and final season of the series based on George R.R. Martin’s writings was up over the previous combined high of last week’s “The Bells” by 4.9 percent. For comparison, 18.5 million viewers tuned in to CBS on May 16 for the series finale of The Big Bang Theory. (Deadline)

Season eight of the series averaged 44.2 million viewers per episode when you account for delayed viewing. (CNN Business)
