Meet The Press Plays Tape of John Kelly Firing Omarosa Manigault Newman

NBC’s Meet The Press on Sunday aired Omarosa Manigault Newman’s recording of her firing by White House chief of staff John Kelly in December, and she said she considers what Kelly said a “threat.” Manigault Newman appeared on the program in advance of the Tuesday publication of her new memoir Unhinged: An Insider’s Account Of The Trump White House. Host Chuck Todd prefaced it by asking with some bewilderment how she was able to record the White House chief of staff in the Situation Room, as she claims. She defended herself and said she felt threatened, telling Todd if she didn’t have the recording people would have continued to believe the false stories about her firing. (Mediaite)

Manigault Newman on Monday provided an audio recording she says is from 2017 and on which President Trump expresses surprise that she’d been fired from his administration. The tape, which was played exclusively on Today, appears to show Trump having no idea Newman had been dismissed by Kelly. (NBC News)

To begin her interview with Todd, Manigault Newman addressed a rumored tape of Trump saying the N-word—something Tom Arnold has threatened to release publicly in the past. “I have heard the tape… I know it exists and what I regret is that these people are trying to leverage it as an October surprise. I don’t want to be a part of it,” Manigault Newman said. “Once I heard it, it was confirmed what I feared the most: Donald Trump is a con… it confirmed he is truly a racist,” she continued. (THR)

She has also claimed the Trump campaign offered her a job in exchange for signing a restrictive non-disclosure agreement to keep her from speaking critically about her time with the campaign and the White House. Manigault Newman provided what she said were copies of those agreements to Meet The Press. (NBC News)
