Disney+ Has 86 Million Subscribers, Lots of New Star Wars Content and Price Bump Coming

Disney will co-release the upcoming animated title Raya And The Last Dragon simultaneously in theaters and on Disney+ as a premium movie offering on March 5, 2021, the company announced Thursday. (Adweek)

The company will also release some other high-profile films directly on Disney+, including a live-action Pinocchio, Peter Pan & Wendy, Enchanted sequel Disenchanted, and Sister Act 3. (THR)

On Thursday, as part of a four-hour investor presentation focused on the future of Disney’s streaming business, Disney also unveiled a blitz of new Star Wars projects, including 10 television shows and a new theatrical film, Rogue Squadron, directed by Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman). (NYT)

The company announced that the service has notched more than 86 million subscribers since launching late last year. That is a large bump for Disney since the end of the last quarter, when it announced it had roughly 74 million subscribers. (CNN Business)

Finally, Disney+ will introduce $1 price hike for subscribers in the United States, raising it to $7.99 a month on March 26, 2021. (The Verge)
