CBS’ Upcoming Streaming Local News Service ‘Will Bring a New Level of Depth’ to CBSN’s Reporting

By Christine Zosche

Since it launched in November 2014, CBS News’ 24/7 ad-supported national and global streaming news service CBSN has put up solid numbers and delivers a younger audience than typically tunes into the news. CBS is trying to transfer that magic to the local level, and announced Wednesday that it plans to launch CBSN Local. (TVNewser)

Starting in the fourth quarter of 2018, local CBS stations will jump on board to form CBSN Local. WCBS will be the pioneer station. KCBS in Los Angeles will be the second station to on-board later this year. (TVSpy)

CBSN Local will be a 24/7 livestreaming service that will beam anchored news coverage and breaking events from major markets served by CBS-owned stations. The local streams will be available through CBSN on CBSNews.com and the CBS News apps for mobile and connected TV devices, and through CBS Television Stations’ websites and mobile apps. (Variety)

Each CBSN Local service will feature livestreams of the stations’ regularly scheduled early morning, daytime and evening newscasts. They will also feature additional daily newscasts that will be produced exclusively for CBSN Local. The services will provide live, continuous coverage of breaking news events and an extensive library of content that will be available for on-demand viewing. (Deadline)
