Box Office: The Lion King Roars Past $1 Billion in Global Ticket Sales

Disney and Jon Favreau’s The Lion King has roared past the $1 billion mark at the global box office in only the 19th day since its release. (THR)

The film has earned $361 million at the domestic box office and $638 million overseas. Outside of North America, it had especially strong showings in China with $115 million, as well as the United Kingdom with $48 million and Brazil with $44 million. (Variety)

Along with Aladdin, The Lion King is the second release from Disney Live Action to reach the $1 billion milestone this year and the sixth ever to do so. Other billion-dollar pics from the studio in 2019 are Avengers: Endgame and Captain Marvel. (Deadline)
