Apple’s New iPad Commercial Draws Ire From Creative Community

Apple is facing backlash for an iPad ad that featured a machine crushing books and instruments. (NBC News)

The idea is that the iPad Pro tablet lets you watch TV shows and movies, listen to and create music, play games, read books, and more. But the ad has been interpreted more as a visual depiction of the tech industry’s devastation of cultural industries. (Variety)

The nature of the ad, ironically, runs counter to Apple’s most famous commercial, Ridley Scott’s 1984 spot for the company that positions the computer as a counter to authoritarian forces. (Hollywood Reporter)
