AMC Theatres Furloughs All 600 Corporate Staff, Including CEO

By Christine Zosche

By late last week, more than 26,000 employees working for AMC Theatres were furloughed or let go as the circuit shuttered amid the coronavirus pandemic. On Wednesday, the largest cinema chain in the U.S. and the world went even further, furloughing all of its 600 corporate employees—including CEO Adam Aron. (THR)

AMC said the furlough plan calls for reduced hours at reduced pay with all the furloughed corporate AMC associates retaining active employment status with the chain, including health benefits. (Deadline)

Additionally, BuzzFeed, hoping to forestall layoffs, is reducing the salaries of most employees. CEO Jonah Peretti said he won’t be taking any compensation until the crisis has passed. (Variety)
