2021-’21 Season TV Ratings: NBC on Top, GMA and Today Split Mornings, David Muir Takes Evening News

NBC has snagged a 52-week ratings crown in both total viewers and adults 18-49 for the first time in three years. The network averaged 5.29 million viewers in prime time for the TV year, a slim 30,000 more than CBS (5.26 million). ABC ranks third with 4.31 million, and Fox is at 3.56 million. (THR / Live Feed)

The prime-time averages throughout the TV season for the Big Four networks in the key, ages 18-49 demographic tied ABC and CBS together with a 0.8 rating, Fox with a 0.9, and NBC up top with a 1.0. In total viewers, NBC’s win totaled approximately 33.6 million more hours watched than any broadcast competitor. (Variety)

The morning show ratings story over the past decade is that Good Morning America has averaged the most total viewers, while NBC’s Today has averaged the most adults 25-54. That trend continued in the 2020-’21 TV season. (TVNewser)

ABC World News Tonight with David Muir was the No. 1 evening newscast for the 2020-’21 TV season, both in average total viewers (8.74 million) and among adults 25-54 (1.69 million). The newscast won all 52 weeks of the season in total viewers for the second consecutive season, and marked five straight seasons at No. 1 in average total viewers. (TVNewser)
