Tim Hortons Takes Square Aim at Dunkin’ in NYC

By Kiran Aditham

Oh Canada, you’ve blessed us with Kids In The Hall and that other type of bacon. But now, our neighbors to the north are invading New York City with chains of Tim Hortons, an establishment that’s not only similar to Dunkin’ Donuts but is taking over 13 of the latter’s locales in the Big Apple.

What type of patrons could the chain attract you ask? Well, as one Ottawa native tells the New York Times, “When you’re crossing the prairie and going through bear-infested territory, Tim’s is your friend.” While the chain is clearly outnumbered in NYC by the almighty Dunkin’ (not to mention 4 billion Starbucks), Tim’s is celebrating its new big city move by giving away 100 gallons of free coffee to commuters at its Penn Station location on Monday morning. Still, ordering a “Timbit” under any circumstance feels a bit awkward.
