The Marketing Arm, Pepsi Celebrate ‘The Joy of Dance’

By Erik Oster

Pepsi released its Super Bowl spot from The Marketing Arm, celebrating “The Joy of Dance” and the the brand’s sponsorship of the Super Bowl 50 Halftime Show.

The spot was directed by Samuel Bayer and stars singer/actress Janelle Monáe (she’s making her big screen debut in the upcoming Moonlight), opening with her selecting a song on the jukebox and partying likes its 1962. From there she heads through a door into an 80s room blaring Madonna before heading through one more door into the present. It’s not the most inventive ad, but it’s fun and good tie-in to Pepsi’s sponsorship of the Super Bowl 50 Halftime Show. Although, since that halftime show will be headlined by snorefest Coldplay it’s hard to imagine anyone will be dancing. Supporting elements for Pepsi’s Super Bowl campaign include The Pepsi Rookie of the Year Award, Pepsi helmets at NFL Experience and the Pepsi Fan Deck at Levi’s Stadium.
