Samsung Galaxy Tablet Goes Head-On with iPad

By Bob Marshall

In a new trio of spots just released to the UK (we’re awaiting confirmation on the agency), the Samsung Galaxy proudly declares that its faster, thinner and lighter. Wait, faster, thinner and lighter than what exactly? Well, what else than the iPad, where the Galaxy definitely has it beat in the two latter categories.

While iPad ads usually depict the Apple tablet being multifaceted, the above spot “Faster” and its companion “Thinner” (below) both use children to bring out the Galaxy’s toy-like features, with a father figure using the product for streaming video and for gaming. The final spot “Lighter” (below) switches the environment to an office building where a corporate-type barely makes the elevator due to a lighter-than-iced coffee tablet.

As Mashable mentions, Motorola targeted Apple with a Super Bowl ad that, though well-received, was not enough to grab the XOOM much market share. We’ll see if the more playful approach of these spots remind us that these tablets are, before all else, just pretty cool toys, with the Galaxy apparently performing better than competitors. The other two aforementioned spots are after the jump.
