Red Pencils Release Mission Statement

By Kiran Aditham

Just before Turkey Day, we posted a little item about SF freelance art director Keith Gibson and his goodwill mission to fight HIV/AIDS. Incase you need a refresher, Gibson is soliciting ad pros to join the Red Pencils, who will take part in the 2010 Aids Life Cycle in June.

Gibson’s Red Pencils cohort Shawn Webster, founder of Creative Movers, sent us a full release today clarifying their initial mission statement.

A few notes of interest:

-Red Pencils is asking for riding enthusiasts from all over, not just the Bay Area (roadies are welcome as well).

-Everyone who registers with the event promises to raise $3000 for the charity. Red Pencils will handle the fundraising responsibilities for the riders.

-The group is working with Pereira & O’Dell to develop digital advertising.

Red Pencils is organizing an Advertising Bike Team for the AIDS Life Cycle Event. AIDS Life Cycle is a 7 Day bike ride starting in San Francisco on June 6th, and ending up in Los Angeles on June 12th. AIDS Life Cycle is designed to raise money to help fight the disease, as well as educate people about its facts.

Our team, Red Pencils, is looking for volunteer Riders who can participate this June. It is an amazing cause, and–although the organization and event are based in San Francisco–it is one we feel resonates everywhere.

Everyone who registers with the event promises to raise $3000 for the charity. What Red Pencils will do is handle all of the fundraising responsibilities for the riders. That way all riders have to do is train and have fun. We are pairing up with Pereira Odell to help develop our digital and advertising elements to assist in our fundraising and educational initiatives.

We will start our aggressive fundraising this spring, but as of right now, we need more riders. Even if you don’t live in San Francisco, you can still register with AIDS Life Cycle to join the Red Pencils team and come out to San Francisco and ride with us this June. We are looking to lock our team down before the new year, so if you are interested, please do not hesitate to email us about your interest.

Email us at team@redpencils.org.

Again, we are going to handle all the heavy lifting, we just need some enthusiastic folks to come out and ride.

Additionally, if you would like to help, but aren’t much of a bike enthusiast, there are other important jobs that you could perform, like being a Roadie during the race; Roadies help set up the Rest Areas for the Bikers to make their journey a bit easier. You can email us about those questions as well. We’d be more than happy to talk.

We would love to see as many people in the advertising community help and support this cause. We know we can use the skills and abilities of the industry to do some real good for an event that deserves it.
