Publicis Management Board Foregoing Bonuses for 2009

By Matt Van Hoven

In a statement, Publicis Groupe announced that their managing board will not take bonuses for 2009. The members include CEO Maurice Levy, David Kenny, Jack Klues, Jean-Yves Naouri and Kevin Roberts.

The company lost no time sharing their humility in the release, stating,

“Although Publicis Groupe has just achieved the rank of 3rd largest communications group in the world and even though the Annual Results were excellent, both in relative and absolute terms, and better than those of all its competitors (on growth, operating margin and net margin), the members of the Directoire insisted on taking this decision as a gesture of solidarity with the Groupe’s employees.”

So Publicis employees needn’t worry (at least by reading the above) that the bonus-snub is a sign the company isn’t doing well. Unfortunately, 2009 saw a wage/salary freeze that as far as we know is yet to be lifted.
