PMK·BNC Mines Muppet Humor for Audi, Emmys

By Erik Oster

PMK·BNC launched a new video promoting the Primetime Emmy Awards and sponsor Audi starring the recently-split Kermit and Miss Piggy and featuring appearances by Julie BowenViola Davis and Joel McHale.

“Kermit Gets Set Up” shows Kermit and Miss Piggy discussing their new show over lunch. When Bowen sends over a bottle of champagne, Miss Piggy thinks it’s an attempt at poisoning her. Throughout the video, Miss Piggy is her usual narcissistic, manipulative self, with hapless Kermit dragged along for the ride. The Audi branding arrives at the conclusion of the spot, when McHale delivers a very obvious plug for the brand’s Audi A3 Sportback e-tron. Despite all the star power, like last year’s “Barely Legal Pawn” starring Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul, the spot ends up being less than the sum of its parts. As is usually the case, the outtakes from the spot (which, in a smart move, are tacked on to the end of the video) are funnier than the scripted video.
