Ogilvy & Mather Canada Promotes Laurie Young to Chief Executive Officer

By Erik Oster

Ogilvy & Mather Canada has appointed Laurie Young as CEO, effective January 1, replacing Dennis Stief, who will be retiring after a long career with the agency. Ogilvy & Mather worldwide CEO and chairman John Seifert, who succeeded Miles Young as CEO back in January and as chairman in September, announced the appointment internally yesterday.

Young joined Ogilvy & Mather Canada as an account supervisor on American Express back in 1988 and has served as managing director for around fifteen years. Before joining Ogilvy, she spent two years as an account executive on P&G at DMB&B in Toronto.

Departing CEO Stief was promoted to that role in 1997 after serving as president of the WPP network’s Canadian division.

“I am delighted to move in to this position,” Young said in a statement. “I think John and the Ogilvy Group have always cherished diversity and gender equality and I am proud to be someone to promote that going forward. The opportunity is terrific here in Canada. It’s a great time to be in the business and we are well-poised to take advantage of that.”
