Course marshals are the volunteer aides at PGA tournaments who are responsible for signaling the direction of a ball after it is hit so that spectators aren’t injured and finding balls that land in the rough.
Marshals are not going to be fans of TaylorMade’s Twist Face clubs, or at least that’s the premise of Los Angeles agency Zambezi’s new spot for the brand. The idea is that with more pro golfers turning to Twist Face, and thus sending more shots straight down the fairway, there’s going to be a lot less for them to do, leading to a pretty boring job. Shot at the Sheltor Harbor Golf Club in Rhode Island and features PGA pros Dustin Johnson, Rory Mcilroy, Jason Day, Justin Rose and Jon Rahm.
The spot concludes with an apology (“Sorry, it’s going to be a long season”) over shots of some very bored looking course marshals.
“As we considered powerful ways to tell the story of Twist Face, the marshals concept rose to the top. The spot features five of the best players in the world and a fun presentation of the real-world ‘straight-distance’ performance of our M3 and M4 Drivers,” TaylorMade senior director, global marketing Mark Buntz said in a statement. “Course marshals are an iconic part of any tournament experience, so they proved to be the perfect characters to effectively bring the product benefits to life.”
