Kobe’s Legend Lives On in CP+B’s New Spot for NBA 2K17

By Erik Oster

Are you sick of Kobe tributes yet? Tough–deal with it!!

CP+B launched a new spot for the Legends Edition of NBA 2K17 paying tribute to the retiring Mr. Bryant entitled “Legends Live On.”

“Nah man, I’m not retiring” says a boy riding a bike at the beginning of the spot. The sentiment is soon echoed by other fans of the game, who have been playing as Bryant for years and aren’t about to stop now. As with myriad other homages to the retiring Laker star with a fondness for assigning himself nicknames, the spot also gives a shout out to the Kobe haters (we’re not sure how he could have attracted so many of those).

The implication is, love him or hate him, Bryant lives on in NBA 2K17…and whether you decide to play as him or against him is up to you. “Legends Live On” concludes by revealing Bryant on the cover of the game, followed by in-game footage of the star dunking. While the title won’t be released until September, the timing of the spot perfectly capitalizes on the excitement around Bryant’s retirement.

We expect a different approach as the September release gets closer and then we have to hear, yet again, about what a great guy Kobe is/was/will always be. Just don’t call him a hero…unless you want to. He won’t discourage it.
