Intolerant Dancehall Jams, Now Brought To You by Pepsi

Pepsi might have to choose its branding efforts a bit more wisely, as the soft drink giant recently sponsored a concert in Uganda featuring controversial dancehall artist Beenie Man.

For the gay community, it’s a double-whammy of sorts seeing that Beenie Man has been criticized for years for his aggressively homophobic lyrics while the Ugandan government is set to pass a bill that calls for the death penalty for those convicted of “aggravated homosexuality.”

According to Uganda’s Daily Monitor, Beenie didn’t disappoint with the rhetoric, performing songs like “Mi Nah Wallah” in which he says he would like to cut the throats of all gay men.

Various reports state that there was also a Toyota promotional tie-in at the show.
