Hillary Clinton Hires African-American Owned Agency Burrell Communications

Last week, we learned that Hillary Clinton had hired Droga5 to help with her presidential campaign and that the agency produced her most recent series of somber, female-centric ads.

Now, with that Super PAC money presumably burning a hole in her pocket, the Wall Street-backed Democratic Party candidate/former Secretary of State has added a second advertising agency to her roster: Chicago/Los Angeles-based Burrell Communications, which identifies as “an agency that specializes in the African-American market.” NBC News first broke the story yesterday.

Burrell Communications is notable for being not just an African-American-focused agency, but one owned by two women–namely industry veterans McGhee Williams Osse and Faye Ferguson.

Unsurprisingly, Burrell Communications will be tasked with targeting black voters in key states for the Clinton campaign as the former First Lady attempts to convince the many voters who turned out for Obama in 2008 to throw their support behind her own candidacy. Black women voters aged 18-29 in particular provided the highest turnout in 2012, and they will undoubtedly prove to be one of Clinton’s key demographics during both the primary and general election seasons.

With the primary in South Carolina coming up in February, it’s likely that Burrell Communications’ contribution to the campaign will be seen sooner rather than later.
