Group creative director Don Shelford has left Droga5.

“It was a very bittersweet decision for me to leave Droga5 New York,” Shelford said. “I was working with great clients…and everyone at the agency was giving me all the support I needed to do great stuff.”

Shelford moved back to the West Coast to focus more on family following over two and a half years as group creative director at Droga5. He is currently freelancing with W+K Portland.

While with Droga5 he worked on accounts including CoverGirl,CNBC, MailChimp, The New Museum, Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and CoverGirl. Before joining Droga5 he spent around four years as a creative director with W+K Portland, working with clients including Nike, Powerade, Target and Levi’s, followed by around a year as a freelance creative director/art director. Earlier in his career he worked as an art director with Arnold Worldwide and GS&P and a creative director with W+K Amsterdam. He then spent a couple years as a director with Caviar Content and HSI Productions prior to joining W+K Portland.

Today we also learned that Droga5 is parting with Pizza Hut after two years, effective in June, with the pizza chain planning to launch a review shortly. Last month, Droga5 went through a round of layoffs, parting with around 40 employees in its New York headquarters, following the firings of COO Ted Royer and London ECD Rick Dodds earlier in the month. February also saw Ancestry.com launch a review less than a year after naming Droga5 as its creative AOR, although Droga5 London may continue to work with the brand. On a more positive note, the agency’s first work for Dos Equis broke this month, retiring the Most Interesting Man character but attempting to keep things “Interesante.”
