Google Patent Will Allow You to Buy Ads in Maps & Street View

By Matt Van Hoven

By now you’ve probably played around in Google Maps and Street View enough to have realized you can see billboards and posters with the service. In July, 2008, Google filed a patent for software that will allow folks like you to buy ad space in Maps, and post your own ads where say, a car drove by that once-famous DKNY ad on Houston.

Google won the patent, but questions still remain about how they will be sold. ReadWriteWeb says the patent hints at an auction system, possibly for ads in more prominent areas. Others can probably be bought like any other media space.
