Good Luck, (NBC’s) ‘Chuck’ or ‘Chuck v. The Footlong’

By Matt Van Hoven

Over the last week supporters of NBC’s ‘Chuck’ have rallied together to save the two-seasons old spy dramedy. In what’s being called a grassroots movement, supporters have taken to the streets and the Webs in a last-ditch effort to save the show.

Chuck v. The Footlong
Subway has been a big supporter of Chuck over the last two years &#151 and signed on for a third season despite the fact that NBC hasn’t. Watch the video above, taken recently, in which the show’s star Zachary Levi leads a group of 600 fans to a Subway and they apparently all get sandwiches in a show of posterity (and well, being all supportive makes a dude hungry, so). The “buy a footlong” thing is meant to show Subway how thankful Chuck’s supporters are for their support, or something. They’re calling it ‘Chuck v. the Footlong’ &#151 it’s a send-up to the program’s episode titles, which are all “Chuck v The something or other”. Clever!

But wait, there’s more! TV blog “Give me my remote” has rebranded itself as “Give me my Chuck” and is sorta spearheading the movement by asking people to Digg a story they wrote about the situation. But c’mon, if that’s not link-bait, I dunno what is. What they should have said is, “Digg this story so we can get more traffic and then more money!”

A quick Google search for “save chuck” brings up an array of stories both on the blogs and on more traditional sites indicating that at least the movement is getting some attention.

Social Medium
Oh yeah there’s also a Facebook page and of course Twitter is all a-titter about it. Even NBC kinda got into the “support Chuck” mood, posting the green banner you see above on the Chuck Web site.

Too bad the network didn’t get more cash out of the Super Bowl. Click continued to see more video from the nerds on parade thang.
