Garry Lace Makes Triumphant Return to Adland, for the Second Time in a Year

By Matt Van Hoven

Former Lowe, Grey and TBWA chief exec. Garry Lace and RKCR/Y&R founder Robert Campbell are launching a new agency in the UK, called Campbell Lace Beta. The agency goes live May 1 of this year, and the nifty name is a product of the agency’s newness. Those sneaky buggers.

The Guardian pegs this as Lace’s bug return to advertising after three years of doing other things. “After three years out of the advertising limelight, Lace, the former chief executive of ad agencies Lowe, Grey and TBWA, said he should have made his return to adland’s centre stage years ago.”

But wait, he actually has been working in advertising. Last year he bought into UK-based Admedia. This is what the Guardian said oh ages ago (actually, in June 2008), “Garry Lace, the former chief executive of ad agencies Lowe, Grey and TBWA, has returned to the industry after a two-year break to join outdoor media company Admedia.”

So, which was his actual return to the business, this one or the last one? Make up your mind, dude. Wait, maybe you didn’t get enough applause with the Admedia thing because it’s an outdoor media company that no one cares about. Except the Guardian.

Yes, dude’s a star, but this press business is a bit more than we can handle.
