By Erik Oster

Energy BBDO appointed Andrés Ordóñez to the role of chief creative officer, filling the role by promoting from within.

He replaces Mark Taylor, who stepped down abruptly from his position as CCO last summer after fifteen months on the job.

Ordóñez was previously executive vice president/executive creative director, a role he has held since November of 2014. He also served as global creative lead on the agency’s Wrigley account.

Before that he spent four years as a vice president, creative director with Zubi Advertising in Miami, working with cleints such as SC Johnson, Ford, Chase, American Airlines, Olive Garden and Folger’s.

He stayed there for six years, working with clients including Pepsi, Frito-Lay, Pizza Hut, Chrysler, Dodge, Bayer and Mars.

Below we’ve included the internal memo to Energy BBDO employees from president and CEO Tonise Paul.

Team,

For the past 7 months, our ECD’s have been taking our work and our clients’ brands to new heights, winning an unprecedented number of creative and effectiveness awards and helping us emerge as one of our network’s high performing agencies. Meanwhile, we have been seeking a Chief Creative Officer who could help us drive our creative momentum forward in a way that is consistent with our values and culture.

I could not be more excited to announce to you this morning that we are promoting from within, naming Andrés Ordóñez, Chief Creative Officer of Energy BBDO.

Since joining, Andrés’s leadership, passion, and unrelenting focus on The Work have been evident on every business and project he has touched. He has built strong partnerships with a diverse array of our clients. As the global creative leader on Wrigley, he has earned the respect and trust of our global network and our clients. Across our portfolio, he has leveraged his multi-cultural background to insure the efficient delivery of powerful Total Market Work. He has attracted outstanding talent and has been a hand raiser for new business and other agency-wide initiatives. His leadership of the work created for Extra last year led to a viral phenomenon, garnering world-wide creative recognition including being voted one of the top 5 most iconic ads on You Tube in 2015.

Andrès started his career at Ruiz Nicoli in Spain, after which he made his way to BBDO in Puerto Rico. He rose through the creative ranks there from Art Director to General Creative Director, working on many of our network’s largest multi-national clients, including our own Mars/Wrigley, Bayer and PepsiCo. Subsequently, he came to the States in creative leadership roles for two multi-cultural agencies, Zubi (Miami) and The Bravo Group (Chicago), where he was Creative VP & Managing Director. His work and awards span a diverse range of categories and brands.

Andrés has a fire in his belly for The Work. The Work. The Work. and The Win. I have the utmost confidence that Andrés, in partnership with Mike, Al, Tim and Sam, will continue to drive the creative standards of our agency, inspire our network and continue to deliver more and more famous, talked about work that wins creative and effectiveness awards.

Please join me in congratulating Andrés on his new role.
