Double Shot of Audi: VB&P Interrupts the Emmys and MediaCom Plays With Toy Cars

By Patrick Coffee

If you missed last night’s Emmys, or the “We Love HBO But Not Modern Family AGAIN This Year, Thank God” show, then you also missed a bunch of B-level Andy Samberg jokes along with Venables Bell & Partners’ new spot for Audi.

“New Arrival” focuses on organic people living their organic lives in a cruelty-free town in Anywhere, America (read: Southern California).

The Audi A3 e-tron makes a dramatic entrance amidst all the organic egg collection, solar panel installation, bumper sticker application and amateur goat herding.

The message: electric cars won’t soon become the next necessary accessory for eco-conscious dudes who want to impress the ladies…because they already are.

There’s more in case you thought that media agencies don’t do anything creative.

In addition to the VB&P spot above, WPP’s MediaCom also released the honest-to-god TV ad “Reality Check” to promote another model: the Audi TT. Here’s the 90-second director’s cut version with even more “tilt-shift photography.”

That was impressive, though we don’t recall Audi sponsoring any matchbox cars when we were kids.

We would say more about the Emmy jury’s inexplicable love of Julia Louis-Dreyfus vehicle Veep or the fact that Elisabeth Moss got robbed even more thoroughly than Jon Hamm during Mad Men’s seven-year run. But at least Dick Whitman finally brought home a statue after advertising turned him into an alcoholic, destroyed his relationship and inspired a slew of journalistic exposes examining his crotch.

A small price to pay for awards season glory.
