DAVID Introduces Burger King’s ‘Angriest Whopper’

By Erik Oster

DAVID launched a new campaign for Burger King, promoting the chain’s new “Angriest Whopper.”

The latest incarnation of the Angry Whopper features a red bun, the result hot sauce being baked into it. DAVID’s 30-second spot promoting the burger takes a mock movie trailer approach, opening with an “A” rating for “A raging red bun with hot sauce beaked into it, fire, angry onions, bacon, jalapenos and angry sauce. The remainder of the mock trailer intersperses footage of an angry volcano with food porn shots of the burger, concluding with the promise that it’s the “angriest Whopper ever” and the advice that “The only way to handle the heat is to embrace it.” The limited-time offering will cost a bit more than the Angry Whopper, at $5.49 compared to the Angry Whopper’s $3.69, with the chain clearly hoping customers find the novelty worth the extra change. It will also be a price increase from last fall’s black-bunned A.1. Halloween Whopper ($4.99).

“We’re combining the power of these past hits into a star-studded sandwich we think our guests will unanimously agree is the next must-eat burger,” Burger King global CMO Axel Schwan told USA Today, adding that the chain launched the burger as a result of the A.1. Halloween Whopper’s success.

That burger gained Internet notoriety for having a certain effect on those who consumed it, which may lead some to wonder what kind of gastronomical effects the new offering might have.
